Know what you need

Certified vs. notarized vs. sworn

Understanding which type your submission requires saves time and prevents rejection. Requirements vary by country and institution.

WHAT WE PROVIDE
Certified

A translation accompanied by a signed declaration of accuracy from the agency or translator.

Standard in the UK, Ireland, USA (USCIS), Canada and Australia. Accepted by most EU authorities for cross-border submissions.
Notarized

A certified translation whose signature is authenticated by a notary public - confirming the signature is genuine, not the translation quality.

Required for some US court submissions and certain official procedures. We provide the certified translation and advise on notarization.
Sworn

Produced by a translator officially appointed by a government authority - a court or ministry - carrying the weight of that appointment.

Required in Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and most continental jurisdictions. We work with registered sworn translators there.

Unsure which type you need? Tell us the receiving country and institution and we will advise before you commit.

Frequently asked questions

Certified translation, answered

Will it be accepted by the receiving authority?

Our certified translations are accepted across the EU, UK, US, Canada, Australia and many other countries, subject to the receiving institution's requirements. We have never had a certified translation rejected on grounds of certification format.

Do you need the original document?

No. A clear scan or photograph is sufficient for translation purposes. The original does not need to be submitted to us.

How long does it take?

Most personal documents are completed within 1-2 business days. Corporate documentation depends on volume. Urgent same-day or next-day delivery is available for most document types.

Can you certify non-European languages?

Yes. We provide certified translation of Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Ukrainian, Russian and other non-European language documents alongside all EU combinations.

Can you post a hard copy?

Yes. Physical certified translations with signature, seal, and where applicable a dry seal, can be posted to any address on request.

Dublin vs. Budapest certification?

Both offices issue certified translations under the Business Team Translations name. Dublin certifies under Irish company registration, advantageous for UK, US and international submissions. Both are equally valid for the EU.

Can you handle apostilled documents?

Yes. We translate apostilled documents and can coordinate the apostille process for documents originating in Hungary and Ireland where required.
