Simultaneous InterpretingSimultaneous interpreting is the best way to get information as quick
as possible, for example, in a medical conference. It is a way of interpreting,
when the interpreter renders the message in the target-language as quickly
as he or she can. The interpreter formulates the information he/she hears
from the source language into the target language, while the source language
speaker continuously speaks. As they have to speak at the same time, the
speaker and the interpreter, it’s obvious, that they cannot be in the
same place. That’s why, the interpreter sits in a sound-proof cabin and
speaks into a microphone, while clearly seeing and hearing the source-language
speaker with the help of earphones. The simultaneous interpreterA simultaneous interpreter is someone, who mediates for someone or even for a whole group of people (for example, the participants of a conference) in another language, while the speaker speaks without interruption. This kind of activity needs a 100% attention and concentration from the interpreter, that's why it is impossible, to interpret the speaker at the same time, in the same room. Opposite to the consecutive interpreting, where the interpreter awaits his turn and doesn’t start speaking until the speaker allows him to, in this case the interpreter has to transfer all the information, he hears, directly to the ears of the audience. His job is difficult, because he not only has to listen to the speaker and translate it in his mind, but also render the translation in his microphone and (the most difficult part) at the same time listen to what is being said while he is speaking himself. Not every translator is suitable for this challenge.
When do we use simultaneous interpreting?Your event needs a simultaneous interpreter when at least one person cannot understand what the speaker is saying. This means, when they don't speak the same language and there is no opportunity (or time) to let the speaker pause regularly.Let us give you some examples for such cases: Technical equipmentWhen organizing a conference or a meeting where you need simultaneous interpreting, you also need the technical background for the interpreting. You will need cabins, microphones, infrared transmitters and sets of headphones.
