I have an illustrated PDF document and I need the translation
with the same layout. Is that possible?
We often receive chart-laden documents and cataloges
full of pictures and charts in PDF format with one instruction:
the layout of the translation must be preserved. It is possible
but the PDF format itself is not enough. PDF is always the product
of another software in which the source document is created, such
as Quark or Adobe InDesign. If you manage to get hold of this
source format we are not only able to preserve the original layout
but we can make a print-ready translation for you, saving you
considerable amount of time and money. We really know how it works
as we have been working ourselves through thousands of pages of
different catalogues and other pdf documents over the last nine
years. If the source format is not available we usually recommend
two options:
1. We scan the documents with our latest, state-of-the-art
optical character recognition (OCR) software and, depending on
the results, we make a translation that is similar to but not
identical with the source document.
2. If, for some reason, the OCR software cannot properly process
the document, we simply translate the text into a Word document
without the pictures. We follow the layout as much as possible
and clearly refer to captions or other picture-related texts in
the translation.
