Can you translate 100 pages by tomorrow?

We receive many calls from customers with a similar request, that is they need to get a translation done at an unrealistically short notice. You can send urgent translation requests and yes, theoretically we can translate hundreds of pages a day, if necessary. But it is not recommended. Urgent translations are useful if someone needs a page or two within a day or the next day. If you need a one hundred pages quality translation, it takes time.

The normal quantity that can be translated is about 2200 words a day, but obviously several factors influence this: the current workload, the level of difficulty of the source text, how much time one has to spend with looking up source materials that help the translation, and of course the source and the target languages.

A very experienced translator can „get over” 25.000 – 30.000 characters (5500 – 6500 words) a day but there’s a certain limit that we cannot go beyond as we are human beings and we all have a maximum capacity (translation can be a very tiring job).

When there’s an urgent translation to do, the better case is if we receive several documents, not really coherent texts, because in this case we can divide them up among more translators. It has also happened that we had to divide one large text into more parts, but this breeds other problems, namely that no matter how hard we try to coordinate the work of 2 - 4 translators it is inevitable that they use different expressions for some term in the target text. Once we had to divide a contract into two. As usually, in the beginning of the contract the most important terms were defined, but in the target language the two translators used different sinonyms for certain words like „Client”. Of course these mistakes can be corrected – if we have time to do it…

The express / instant delivery always affects the quality of the output. In case it is inevitable our Project Managers will do their best to coordinate the work and they will try to make the translation as consistent as possible.

But there are no miracles…

To translate a document of 30 pages – approx. 13000 words – in good quality, at best 3 days are necessary.
